The Flow of This

People often think that meditation or mindfulness as the pursuit of achieving future enlightenment, but that can be misleading. How can you be in the now while looking to the future?

If you practice mindfulness with an end goal in mind, the practice itself loses some of its value by taking you out of the present moment. Instead, mindfulness is more about the journey than the destination.

Taking time to practice being present, being in the now, can stretch and strengthen mental muscles of perception and awareness. This practice becomes an increasingly powerful skill of being able to look at life and experience it as it is, instead of how you want it to be.

Life is full of moments, and each moment is already here. The skill of recognizing and being aware of each moment becomes an expression of living life as it is. The more this skill is practiced, the easier it becomes to remain present.

Life is a perpetual state of flow, one moment flowing into the next. These moments move along effortlessly, regardless of what you try to do. Trying and doing can break your perception of that flow, attempting to force life into what it isn’t.

The unpredictability of life is what makes each moment so unique and special. Flowing with the spontaneity of experience, able to handle and accept each moment, is what makes life enjoyable and satisfying.

Finding flow and effortlessly experiencing life can be an incredible adventure, but it can be hard to remain in this state of being present. Instead of trying to attain this state of presence, practice being aware of the now, and presence will follow.

What do you do to find flow or practice being present?
