We often think of ourselves as the subject of our reality, seeking to be “in” the present, in the now. In reality, we are always a part of the now, inseparable from it.
When practicing mindfulness or looking to be in the present, it can feel like we are noticing or observing the moment. This separation from experience, seeking something other than what is, can make us feel removed from the moment.
We feel as though we are a subject that is trying to do something. Now, or the moment, becomes an object that we are trying to connect with.
But are we really so separate from the moment? From being present? Is there a distinction between the perceiver and the perceived? Do we need to seek the moment, or are we already a part of it?
The harder we try to be “in” the moment, the harder it can become to “be” the moment. Life is a series of seamless moments, each flowing into the next. We are always a part of the moment.
Each instant we experience a variety of elements of reality, physical, emotional, and thought based sensations. Each of these sensations forms a part of our experience with reality, forming part of each moment.
The more we recognize that we are a part of each moment, not separate from it, the easier it becomes to be the moment instead of seeking it.
There is nothing that needs to be done to enter the moment. We are always a part of experience. We are always now.
