People often think of mindfulness and meditation as a practice of the state of being here now. Looking at each word individually, be, here, now, we can see that there is more to this practice, and much less.
Being here now is not a directive or call to action. There is no doing that must occur in order to reach the state of being here now. Instead, being here now is a description of reality as it already is.
To help understand this concept of continual existence, it is helpful to look at each word individually.
Be. Being is not a practice, it is what we are. There is no way not to be. Being is spontaneous and effortless.
Here. Here is where we are, the place we are being. There is no way for us not to be here. Being here is a continued state of effortless and spontaneous existence. Being here forms the basis of all existence.
Reality is being here, in experiential existence. What we feel, hear, taste, touch, smell. There are no conditions to be here. It can’t go anywhere or be lost, we are always being here.
Now. Being here always occurs now. We are here in every moment, every instant of our existence. Any time we notice something about our existence, it happens in this moment, now.
It is impossible not to Be Here Now. There is nothing that needs to be done. It is not a practice or a state to achieve.
Mindfulness and meditation helps to improve awareness of what it means to be here now. The more we are aware of our existence and our experiences in reality, the more we can recognize that we are always present, in this moment. We are always being here now.
