Costa Rica: Guanacaste Region

Take a deep, long breath and enjoy the flowing movement of clouds over volcanoes in the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica.

This timelapse compilation spans two full days, going from sunset to night to sunrise each day. This region has three volcanoes within view from a helicopter pad viewpoint I hiked to at Rio Perdido.

Clouds are always interesting to watch move through the sky, but there is something almost magical about how they move over volcanoes. The volcanoes create their own wind patterns, holding the clouds to their hills instead of having them flow off into the distance. It’s amazing watching the old clouds die and the new ones be born on the hills of such incredible elements of nature.

I visited the Guanacaste region in Costa Rica specifically to try and capture the night sky as it is one of the darkest regions in the country. Thankfully, the clouds held off overnight, and I managed to capture two astro timelapses of the Milky Way moving into sunrise. I hope that you enjoy watching this compilation and can use it to meditate and relax, providing a few minutes of calm to your day.
