Zotero Integration Template (PDF & Academic Research)

The more you research, the more PDFs you accumulate, the less likely it is that you will actually go back to read that PDF in the future.

It becomes difficult to track your research in a useable way, a way that you can work into your thoughts & ideas to produce original writing.

That’s where Zotero comes in. Zotero is a free tool for tracking websites & PDFs in a library, allowing you to download files effortlessly from your browser and keep them organized on your computer. You can annotate and takes notes, greatly increasing the value of your research.

But Zotero itself is not a true note-taking system. It’s not a place for you to build out your publishable writing. You need to integrate Zotero into another platform, like Obsidian.

With the Zotero Integration Plugin, you can automatically sync between Obsidian & Zotero, moving your notes & highlights to Obsidian where they can be more of use to you in your actual writing workflow.

To help pull in your annotations & notes from Zotero in a seamless way, you must create a template file for Obsidian to understand where the information from Zotero should go.

This Zotero Integration Template is my way of automatically parsing the information from Zotero to present it in Obsidian in the most usable way possible.

*Note, this Zotero Integration Template fits perfectly within my Full Obsidian Starter Kit (Molecular Zettelkasten) and is included as part of the full bundle.
